Vacation in Style: A Girl’s Guide to Clothing for a Punta Cana Vacation

If you're heading down to the Dominican Republic for a vacation this summer, then you need to make sure you have the right outfits lined up. It's going to be super warm this time of year, so you're going to want to pack accordingly (no jeans, for instance). It's also important to make sure you have the right swimwear for the beach, as well as nice outfits for when you hit the clubs at night. So, here's a breakdown on what you should bring.

Sandals

Punta Cana is a beach resort area, and therefore you really need to bring sandals. Sneakers or shoes just won't cut it. You can bring fancy sandals for night, or during the day when you're having lunch in one of the restaurants, as well as beach appropriate sandals for when your planning on hitting one of the beaches to go tanning.

A Bikini or One Piece

You will need some sort of swimwear, obviously, and if you don't have a new piece, now is a great time to upgrade. The atmosphere in Punta Cana is very laid back, so if you do like cheeky or Brazilian style bikinis, that's totally cool. As a note, while some tourists do go topless at the beach, it's not a popular trend among Dominican women. So, if you are looking for that sort of atmosphere, make sure you book a room at one of the 18+ hotels that advertise adults only private beaches where topless sunbathing is more prevalent. And of course, many women wear one piece swimsuits in Punta Cana, so you can always go with something like that if you want more coverage.

A Nice Cocktail Dress

You can't visit the Dominican Republic and not head out to a nightclub. Latin music is super fun to dance to and there are amazing nightclubs in Punta Cana. So, you should definitely bring a dress that you think looks nice and you will feel comfortable dancing in. Remember, Latin music is fast, so you probably want to steer clear of tight or super form fitting dresses, and opt for something more flowy, which is also great because of the warm temperature.

A Fun Bohemian Romper

During the day you are not going to want to wear your nighttime dress, but you also don't want to head out in jeans. Even the most lightweight jeans will be hot in a Dominican summer. Instead of jeans, you should pick up a really cool bohemian romper. These are casual enough to be cool for walking around the beach area, having lunch, and sightseeing. They are also lightweight and won't make you super hot and all sweaty within a few minutes of being outside.
